Fundred Dollar Bill Project

As part of our "Fun" Fridays, a rotating extra day of Art, students work with a method called Visual Thinking Strategies. VTS builds "thinking skills that become habitual and transfer from lesson to lesson, oral and written language literacy, visual literacy, and collaborative interactions among peers." -quote from VTS website.

Currently we are investigating contemporary artists, talking about their artwork, and how it might directly effect us. Today we talked about the artist Mel Chin and his Paydirt/Fundred project. We even got a chance to design our own Fundred dollar bills!

Read more about Mel Chin and his project at http://www.fundred.org . You can even download your own here and share them with your family!

4th grade Positive/Negative project

4th grade Artists have been talking about how artists use space in their work. They viewed many examples of optical illusions in which the artist would create space that could be both positive or negative. As the students created their own artwork, they worked to form organic shapes to create their own space illusion. We also found an appreciation for looking at abstract work and finding objects within our organic shapes that began to create stories! What do you see in our artwork?
