Art from the Heart

Thank you so much to everyone that came out to our very first North Oakview Art Show last night. It was a huge success and so wonderful to see so many families celebrating the Arts here at North. A big shout out to all of the volunteers, North PTC, and the many teacher helpers who made this event possible. As soon as all of the artwork is mailed back to school, I will be passing projects that were not purchased back to students.

3rd Grade Grand Rapids Art Museum Field Trip

3rd graders had an amazing time visiting the Grand Rapids Art Museum (GRAM) to participate in this year’s Language Artists Program!

Language Artists is a strategic partnership with area school districts. This nationally recognized arts and literacy program combines the powerful role of art with a year-long unit of study that promotes student achievement and cultural citizenship through active learning and direct engagement with the Art Museum.

Now that the 3rd graders have been to the GRAM, they will be using that inspiration to create hybrid animal artwork in Art class. After the artwork is complete, they will write narrative describing it in their classrooms. Make sure to check our Artsonia for completed animal artwork!

The cost for this field trip was provided grants written by the GRAM and transportation by our North PTC.Thank you PTC!!!

DK-2nd grades have been creating sand sculptures on our "Fun Fridays" in Art class to try to escape the cold Michigan weather. Students were challenged to create snowmen and other winter-themed sculptures with "magic sand" that was donated by our friends at The Outlet. Thank you!!!

Tis the Season!

4th graders have been working on their watercolor painting nutcrackers in Art class and eagerly anticipating their Unified Arts field trip to the Grand Rapids Ballet production of The Nutcracker. The North PTC has so graciously funded this trip for the last 3 years as a part of a collaborative U.A. unit on the history, craft, music, and literature background of the story of The Nutcracker.

We are also putting the finishing touches on a larger-than-life paper mache sculpture with hopes to display it every year.  Stay tuned for pictures of the sculpture in progress!
